Message from Ayana Johnson

The gift of volunteering has taught me that living is not merely existing. On the contrary, purpose is created by assisting others, especially enabling the less fortunate to have access to basic needs. I've been blessed with the opportunity to visit Honduras and Guatemala with Habitat for Humanity and participate in creating substantial housing for its citizens. It was through your generous donations that this endeavor was possible. Being that the duty of assisting one's sister/brother never ends, I am drawn to return to Honduras and continue this work. I know that many of us have the desire to engage in such work, however schedules and responsibilities may prevent us from doing so. Your donations can allow you to be an active participant in fostering positive change for someone in need. Any amount will help in my never ending desire to help the less fortunate. I thank you all in advance for your time, consideration and donations. To donate, simply click the designated link below for your preferred method of donation and follow the necessary prompts.  In the additional comments field (if using PayPal or Venmo), please enter "HfH Honduras - Ayana Johnson."

Habitat para la Humanidad Guatemala (Antigua y Chimaltenango)

A nonprofit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of Guatemalan families through partial or full funding for the construction, improvement and repair of homes across the country.

According to the Central American Association for Housing, the housing deficit in Guatemala exceeds 1.6 million households. Additionally, there is a need for basic services such as potable water, sanitation, electricity, and there are families that still cook with open fires in rural areas.

Habitat Guatemala has contributed to the reduction of 5.68% of the country’s housing deficit, both qualitative and quantitative. Our commitment is that all Guatemalans inhabit adequate housing. As of April 2018, more than 100,000 families have been helped with construction, improvement and home repairs.

Habitat para la Humanidad Honduras

According to the Inter-American Development Bank, 68.2% of the population in Honduras lives in poverty, and 38% of households in rural areas do not have electricity. Most people live in dwellings that are either unsuitable for habitation or are built with poor materials and lack basic infrastructure services.

Habitat for Humanity Honduras enables vulnerable communities to gain access to adequate housing through holistic programs for neighborhood improvement and home improvement in poor settlements.

Thika, Kenya

Street Hope offers hope and changes lives by helping to create income generating activities for individuals to allow them to escape the sex trade industry in Eastern Africa. Donations can be made by clicking here.

Kiria, Kenya

Kiria, Kenya is a small village approximately 3 hour drive from Nairobi. It is so small and remote, that you will not find it on a google search.  But I assure you, it is there. During this trip, we spent the week painting ceilings of the elementary school classrooms, teaching lessons, and living for a day as local villagers and farmers.

La Gonave, Haiti

La Gonave is a remote island off the coast of Haiti.  It's 37 miles long and 9 miles wide.  There is one hospital that services the entire island.  While Haiti is called "the land the world forgot," La Gonave is referred to as "the land Haiti forgot."  Our medical mission team served the community by providing dental services, medical check-ups, and even had the opportunity to deliver a few babies and save a life with emergency surgery.
